About Michael Oliver Design

It is difficult to believe I've been involved in design and advertising business for almost 40 years. I did my first brochure layout with colored pencils, chalk and watercolors. When Magic Markers came out, it was such a thrill to get my first box with 10 or 12 basic colors. It was wonderful when hundreds of colors were available, and then along came Letraset and comping headline type with a colored pen or pencil became a thing of the past. During these times, from the 60's thru the 70's I worked in Miami at several ad agency's and then moved to Atlanta to work for a design studio as head designer. I opened my own studio there with Coca-Cola USA as my biggest account.

In the mid 70's, I opened the first of two Charles Jourdan shoe stores in Lenox Square in Atlanta. The second one opened in Mayfair in the Grove in Coconut Grove (Miami) Florida. After selling both stores in the early 80's I returned to my design business then came the computers. I had the first MacIntosh and over the years have had so me bad Apples as wellas some great ones. In the 80's my studio was located in Coral Gables and in the 90's I moved it to Miami Beach. My clients included FPL, BankRate Monitor, The Brandon Company and Consolidated Bank as well as many others.

Late in the 90's computers where everywhere in the graphic's and advertising business and it had changed dramatically. I took a little time out and my wife and I opened a lingerie store in Ft Lauderdale which we built up and sold in 2002. At that time I returned to my design business on a more relaxed schedule. We took some time to travel each year to places like Tokyo, Singapore, Thailand, Bali, and China and to remodel our house in North Carolina. I began learning Chinese and we adopted a daughter from China when she was 9 months old in 2006.

Our daughter,Lucy Liu, has started pre K now and I am back to working with a few clients. Armed with two new iMac's and Adobe CS5 and lots of creative ideas,I am ready to help a few select clients enhance their brands or products.
